Wee Memories Challenge #68 - Focusing on Design

Last week Wee Memories issued a challenge that I just could not pass up! "No Patterned Paper" were the orders...and for me that's a perfect challenge to take on! So here I am with my entry into WMC68!

I never use patterned paper. I wish I used it more. I have no idea what to do with it...yet and still...I buy it up every time I see a pattern that I like! Go figure.

Since "no pattern paper" is part of my typical card making routine, I decided to challenge myself in another way....through design.

I love design. I appreciate the intricacies that go into a simple, well designed card. Sometimes I design a card around the sentiment. You know? Like cupcakes on a birthday card. Or a tie on a Father's Day card.  It's totally not necessary.

So...for this project, I honed in on design and created a card that speaks to my love of clean, modern shapes and colorful accents. I didn't worry about the sentiment.

I used die cut squares to complete the random pattern, then filled in the bottom three squares with stamped backgrounds from PTI's Background Basics: Retro (one of my all time faves).

I chose to place the color toward the bottom of the card, to frame the sentiment and help direct the eye to that part of the card.

Once I die cut and adhered the squares, I dug for a sentiment that fit perfectly beneath the red and blue parts of the pattern. I didn't want it to hang over the edge at all -- seemed cleaner that way.

I was happy to find the birthday sentiment in my Mat Stack 1 set, and it was the perfect fit.

So there we go! A fun design for a birthday card...no cupcakes in sight!

Thanks for stopping by for some Damask Love!  Have a great Wednesday

  9. So, I'm like days and days and days behind in reading blogs. (let's don't talk about the fact that my Google Reader count is closing in on 1,000 and that makes my OCD chest tighten) But anyway, I don't care that I'm 8 or so days behind in reading this because I FREAKING LOVE THIS CARD!!!!!! OMGosh, it is fabulous! Plunking it into my Pinterest right now and then going to take a shower because I haven't had one today and I have some serious bad hair issues. :)
