Masculine cards are the nemesis of crafters everywhere!
In most cases, a masculine cards means the following:
No lacey doilies
No pinks and pretty pastels
and NO GLITTER!
It hurts me to even type that.
The current Embellish Magazine Challenge is all about Masculine cards!
This challenge really made me think!
I have a deep love for glitter, buttons, baker's twine and sparkly embellishments! How was I going to make a masculine card?!
Well - I was truly inspired by the Embellish DT samples, many of which feature a textured galvanized steel pattern.
I decided to use aluminum foil as the feature of my card - and mimic the textured steel look by embossing the foil with my PTI Diamonds Impression Plate.
HINT: I mounted the foil on cardstock before embossing it. This reinforced the embossed pattern and made the foil a bit sturdier.
WARNING: Photographing foil is perhaps the most impossible thing to do. You will get frustrated and you will want to throw the whole project out of the window. On more than one occasion you will think you have a good photo - only to find that you can see your own reflection in the foil. Note to self - no more crafting with foil.
I added grommets to the corners of the foil for a more masculine feel.
Then - instead of reaching for baker's twine, as I so often do...I decided to use flexible wire as an embellishment.
(I use the wire for making chandelier earrings! Shhh - don't tell though- the use of jewelry wire may compromise the masculinity of this card!)
Once I had the wire wrapped around the card - it reminded me of guitar strings - making the "Rock Star" sentiment an obvious choice!
That's all for today - tomorrow come back for your regularly scheduled glitter & lace-filled programming:-)
Thanks for stopping by for some Damask Love!

This is great Amber! Love the foil idea, it's the perfect masculine touch!
ReplyDeleteHaha! As long as it's wire, I think it counts. "He" would never know where it came from anyway!! Nice card.
ReplyDeleteThis is fabulous! I am loving your work!
ReplyDeleteWell you totally nailed the concept, the card is awesome!
ReplyDeletecool card!! thanks for the (funny) warning!!
ReplyDeleteGreat job Amber and thank you for not giving up and throwing said card out the window. And I echo Rebecca....its the wire that counts - not its original use, lol. xx
ReplyDeleteAmber your card is just perfect for this challenge! Lovely take on the sketch!
ReplyDeleteFANTASTIC guy card! You totally made me chuckle when giving the warning about using foil. I did the same thing a couple years ago and I'm sure I cursed the foil too. Then again I still curse when trying to get a good pic of anything. Ugh. Thank you so much for playing along in the Embellish Challenge.
