One Layer Wednesday - Circles

Happy Seis de Mayo, Friends!

Oh, you didn't know that Seis de Mayo was a holiday?

Well, it is.

It's the celebration of being completely exhausted at work because the bar across the street from your apartment decided that a live mariachi band was a great idea...and that this aforementioned mariachi band would be best showcased by playing on the sidewalk until the most ungodly hours of the morning.

So, yes...Happy Seis de Mayo!

Now, what do you do when you are being forced to listen to mariachi at 2am? You craft, of course! (And bake a few batches of Cranberry Orange scones - yummmmm).

That leads us to today's project...

I was so excited by all of the fabulous comments from yesterday's post! There are so many wonderful challenges out there and I loved taking a look at each one that was suggested. (Please keep the suggestions coming!!!)

I was especially drawn to the One Layer Wednesday challenge suggested by Sarah.

I love one layer cards but struggle to make them - since I tend to fuss with my creations for hours on end.

So....I figured I'd join the One Layer Wednesday fun and create something to fit the current theme of "Circles"

I've been eager to use my circle background stamp from Ditto by Studio G

And instead of using the stamp as a background, I chose to use it as the focal image for the card.  I love the interesting way this pattern fits into the "circle theme"

To determine the color palette for this project, I was inspired by this AMAZING ombre wedding cake:

I think I died a little bit when I saw this photo. Luckily, the loud mariachi band was there to revive me.

Anyway...here's my one layer, circle themed, ode to ombre creation:

Thanks for stopping by on this festive Seis de Mayo!

Come back on Sunday for a super fun post for a special little blog hop that I'll be participating in!

Adios, Damask Lovers:-)

  1. Amber, that's awesome! I can't believe you got up and BAKED, although I might believe the crafting part... I hope you get a bit of sleep tonight!

  2. I love this card! It reminds me of those pattern coloring books that we used when we were little (or still like to use sometimes!).

  3. Beautiful work Amber. Everything is just perfect. I personally think one layer cards are difficult because everything has to be just so...in its place - no mistakes. With layers you can often times "cover up" a mistake. LOL.

Wow you are productive when you are unable to sleep. I just surf the forums and the web when I can't sleep.

  8. Stunning.

Your card is absolutely stunning. I just picked that stamp up last week. And now I'm jealous that I didn't think of this first, that's how awesome your card is. I love the gradient grays and the splash of turquoise.

And can I just say how glad I am to see that you're played along with the One-Layer Wednesday challenge? It really helped me hone my composition skills.

  16. This is gorgeous, Amber. I think you totally rocked the one layer! The inspiration cake is awesome and you really captured it on your card.

Mariachi band across the street? Ugh. I would have been going crazy with that. I'm NOT a happy camper when things interrupt my sleep. Of course, perhaps muffins like the ones you made could have eased my soul. :)
