I recently made my first attempt at publishing - cards that is.
I have a little experience with publication in other fields, psychology to be exact and strangely enough the process is pretty similar.
In the field of psychology, though - our journals don't have fun, colorful pictures and often the publisher offers a "revise & resubmit" option for submissions.
Not the case here - when it comes to publishing your papercrafting creations - you either make the cut, or you don't.
Not the case here - when it comes to publishing your papercrafting creations - you either make the cut, or you don't.
There's always the opportunity to try for another publication (which I will definitely be doing!) ... but when it comes to Paper Craft Magazine's Go to Sketch Issue - the door is closed!
So what happens to all those cards that met their fate on the cutting room floor?
They end up HERE - at the Reject Blog Hop!!!
Note: I got the idea for this hop from another fabulous stamper, Laura Pryor! Thanks for the idea, Laura!

The Reject Blog Hop is a place to share your fabulous projects that didn't make the final cut.
So let's get this Reject Party started!!!
Use the Linky below to share your favorite card that won't be published.
**You have until March 11, 2001 11:59pm EST to submit**
EDIT: Head over the Latisha Yoast's blog for a great article about submitting to magazine for publication - lots of valuable insight.
Here's one of my submissions - which is super simple and just my style. I am in love with PTI's most recent release which included these fabulous doily stamps and dies.
I think it's pretty snazzy!
Better luck next time, I suppose! Until then - I'll be blogging away as usual:-)
Thanks for stopping by for some Damask Love - and keep on coming back for more!!!

Here's another one of my beloved rejects:
(I don't call them rejects to their faces, since that might give them a complex)
Admittedly - this one may have been a little too much of an interpretation of the original sketch (I was never good at following directions!) Also, I'm pretty sure the hot air balloon thing has been beaten to death in the papercrafting world.
(Notice my knack for making excuses for my rejected designs?! I'm like a mama bird protecting her chicks!!!!!)
Better luck next time, I suppose! Until then - I'll be blogging away as usual:-)

i don't have any, not that they got accepted (i wish) but i haven't had a chance to submit anything lately :(
ReplyDeleteI personally love your card and think it is as good or better than some they have published lately. You know . . . you look at them in the magazine and say to yourself . . . "They published THAT?!?"
ReplyDeleteI've never submitted anything for publication before. But it might be fun to make the leap and give it a try. Don't give up -- keep trying!

Amber, I think this is the most hilarious idea for a blog hop ever! I know what you mean about publishing at work, in so many ways it's easier you pick your reviewers, they give you feedback, etc. Sigh. You have a great blog and do fabulous work!!! You will get published - your style is amazing. I agree with Jennifer (above) - sometimes you look at certain cards and think "How on earth..." But not with yours! Have a great weekend!
ReplyDeleteOHGSH!!!!!! I am a new follower to your blog within the last couple of days since we each won for the Feb Gallery Challenge. And I'm just seeing this post!!!! This is FABULOUS! Great projects. We are all Winners in our own way. There are so many pretty cards above, enjoyed seeing them. I like your "Reject"idea, just great fun after the fact.
ReplyDeleteWhat a great idea! It's great to see all of the beautiful cards. I LOVE your cards--both of them are *stunning*! I've also published in the academic world and think this process is much more nerve-wracking. ;)
ReplyDeleteApparently, in the art world, this is known as a Salon des Refusés. An exhibition of rejected works - the most famous one being in 1863 in Paris. It included Manet's famous Luncheon on the Grass (Le déjeuner sur l’herbe) .
ReplyDeleteOh, how I love this idea! Your cards are awsome... I submitted 4-5 and none of them got picked up! :( BUT< like you, I will keep trying and keep submitting! It's bound to happen for us eventually! ;) Thanks for the inspirtaion!
ReplyDeleteWhat a FANTASTIC idea!!! It will be so fun to come back to this post when the publication comes out, too. It's all part of the how-to of getting published. Something I have yet to learn. :)
ReplyDeleteThe recipients of these cards will love them Amber, and they have no idea they are rejects. The colours are amazing and I particularly like your take on the diagonal circles, balloons were an inspired choice. Great idea this blog post, as we are all pretty proud of what we submitted.
ReplyDeleteYour cards are just beautiful, Amber! Your attention to detail is amazing. Thanks for starting this hop for all us "rejects" this is so fun and everyone is very talented! No worries, ladies, I'm sure we will all get there sooner or later! :)

So sorry your cards didn't make it. I love the air balloon card. Don't give up trying though you do wonderful work.

ReplyDeleteJimmeny Crickets! I can't believe these didn't get picked up. That balloon one is fabby in that sketch ( I also had a reject in the Sketch's pile!...it is such a cool sketch, though!). The doily card is so cheery and chic! You'll get there soon...I remember seeing a special mailbox featured on their webpage just a few short days ago ;)!
ReplyDeleteThose balloons are spectacular, the way you have them popped truly gives a feeling of flight! And the vibrant colors in your first card, holy moses, it's elegant in its simplicity!!
ReplyDeleteI LOVE LOVE LOVE your cards- not sure how I stumbled on your blog, but I joined in on the rejection posts!! :)
ReplyDeleteYour cards are gorgeous, Amber! Thanks for starting this fun blog hop! :o)
ReplyDeleteBrilliant idea for a hop, Amber! Thank you so much for organizing this. I think both of your (shhh, don't want to hurt their feelings) rejects are awesome! This was my first time submitting (and being rejected) but if this is the consolation prize, I'll try again! :P
ReplyDeleteBoth cards are stunningly beautiful!! PC and its readers are missing out by not having either of these included in their mag. Really loving the reject hop, too. Super fun idea - thanks for taking it on!!
ReplyDeleteThanks for doing this Amber. I think your cards are great! I love both, the first is so lovley. I really like how you used white CS, simple, for both!
ReplyDeleteI can't believe there are now 90 links here. Maybe Paper Crafts Mag should think about doing a double edition!!
ReplyDeleteI love your cards Amber - the first especially - so clean, classic and colourful! What a great idea to do this hop - it's interesting and fun!
ReplyDeleteAmber, I ADORE your cards and appreciate a fun place to put my reject too! :-)
ReplyDeleteAmber, Thanks for hosting this! It has been so much fun seeing everyone's work:) You rock!
ReplyDeleteThis was a super hard post for me to write--rejection is never fun. But I'm glad I joined in the fun. THANKS!
ReplyDeleteSuch a fantastic idea. Some really incredible creations here which are definitely publication worthy. The support that comes from other bloggers can be a great comfort for those of us who's been rejected.
ReplyDeleteHey Lovely Amber!
ReplyDeleteJust wanted to say that your generosity of spirit is just awesome! I haven't ever done the publishing dance, so don't know the joys or pitfalls but I can certainly appreciate what you've done here and it just confirms how magnificent you and the rest of your crafting contemporaries are. Hang in there folks! You've got to be in it to win it! Big squishy hugs all round! The publishers are sure to get it right one day.
Wonderful hop, lot's of talent!
ReplyDeleteHey Amber! Thanks for linking this up to the In My Beautiful Balloon Challenge in the Moxie Fab World! I'm so glad you joined in on all the fun! :)
ReplyDeleteFun blog hop! :)
I've never submitted anything and doubt I ever will; especially if these gorgeous cards are what is being rejected.
ReplyDeleteJust can't believe all these cards were rejected. They are much nicer than some of the cards I have seen published.
Good luck to all you ladies that continue to submit; I hope each of you gets a card published.
